OH BOY!

I was sleeping peacefully at 6:45 this morning when I heard total chaos break out over the baby monitor! Like every veteran mom, I was out of the bed, down the hall, and in Kieren's room before my eyes even opened!! Hmmm... Kieren was still sleeping. What gives? Then I heard the front door slam. I could hear Andy yelling for Cullen to be careful, that the bus would wait. Without my glasses on I am blind as a bat so I couldn't see what was going on outside. The next thing I heard was Andy yelling not to rush! Then Andy asking if Cullen was okay. The big yellow blur (must've been the bus) left, followed a moment later by Andy's car (couldn't really see it, but it needs a new muffler so I heard it).

So, I was really curious. I called Andy's cell phone. All I have to say is I'm not sure if I should laugh (not around Cullen of course) or feel major pain for my oldest baby. Here is what Andy told me.

Andy went out to start his car. He told Cullen to stay in the house until he waved for him to come out. I guess it was pretty darn cold this morning. Well, Andy spotted the bus coming down the street and waved for Cullen to come. So Cullen comes flying out of the house, hits the sheet of ice known as our front walk, and goes flying through the air. When he gets up, Andy checks to see if he's okay. Cullen then cuts through the yard and wipes out on the sidewalk near the street! Andy hauls him to his feet then asks Cullen where his backpack is. It is still in the house. Cullen jumps up and goes running for the house. You guessed it! He hit the ice again! At this point, the bus is stopping in front of the house and Cullen is freaking out that he is going to miss the bus!!!! Andy tells him to be careful, but get his bag from the house, then signals the busdriver to wait. Cullen goes running through the yard and almost kills himself on the front walk again. He runs inside in a panic (I could hear Andy at this point tell him not to worry) and grabs his backpack. He slams his way out of the house, slides across the front walk, runs through the yard again, and wipes out on the sidewalk! Cullen scrambles to his feet, almost in tears, and steps into the street. I can hear Andy tell him to watch out. His feet go flying out from under him and he is now lying in the street behind Andy's car!!!! Andy again hauls him up and gets him on the bus.

Oh boy! Now that's a rough way to start your morning!!!! Andy felt so sorry for Cullen that he is taking him to Skyline Chili for dinner. It's hard to be nine!!!

I Love Noodles!!!!

Hmmm... These noodles taste pretty good.
Actually, I think I really like them.
It's faster if you don't use the spoon.
Look Mom! No hands!!!!
Licking the bowl is totally acceptable in some cultures!
I'm too cute to get in trouble for my manners!
Poor Abercrombie!!! You should wait until after Kieren is finished eating!

Study Time at Our House

After The Party

Look at all the loot from Kieren's party!
Too pooped from the party!!!
I forgot to post these with the rest of the party photos! Kieren fell asleep on the way home from Nanny and Pops' house. She partied until she dropped!!!!

I Think China Lied!

As you know, my little sweetie turned one yesterday. Well, I think China lied! The little monster who got out of Kieren's crib this morning has to be two. It wasn't my sweetie little girl playing happily this morning. It was a cranky, tantram-throwing, mean, and - let's just say it - "ugly", terrible-twos toddler in my family room!!! OH...MY...GOD!!! I am ready to send this child to her room for the next week! She has pushed all of my buttons today!

We started out this morning with the put-the-food-in-the-mouth-and-then-pull-it-back-out routine. This one I'm used to. Kieren will put her toast in her mouth and then give me this look like I'm trying to poison her. Next step is to stick her fingers in her mouth and remove all offending food. The offensive morsels get dropped on the floor. The dog really likes this game! Moving on to the late morning bottle. Kieren has decided that she is a camel, yet again. There is nothing like a spitting baby!!! The lunch time applesauce was also spit at me AND the dog today. I'm putting up the warning sign on the door!!!

Today is another one of those pick-me-up-but-don't-touch-me days. Kieren wants me to pick her up every two seconds. When I do, she shoves away from me and wants back down. As soon as her feet hit the floor, she starts to fuss and the whole thing starts over again. When I ignore her and do something else, she has a meltdown! Bathroom breaks are done with a screaming baby looking over the gate and into the bathroom.

We are also having a don't-change-my-diaper-even-if-the-flies-are-getting-too-thick-to-see-me day. I think God didn't give moms enough arms! Those strong little legs are almost impossible to control while you are trying to remove a nasty nappy!!! And those sweetie little hands aren't so sweet covered in poop! Of course we have the spinning escape. And what diaper change isn't complete without the battle of re-diapering!!! We both came out of this one covered in sweat!

Well, I decided to sit on the floor this morning and fold Kieren's laundry. Not a big deal. Everything is folded neatly in the basket, just waiting to be put away. (Jaws theme please...) I turn to answer the phone and guess who has decided to fling all of her clothing across the room!!!! (Psycho music please...)

By this point I have had more than enough!!! It is time for someone to take a nap! And Kieren needs one too. So we cuddle on the couch with Lovey (stolen White Swan washcloth), a blanket, a bottle (hers, not mine), and the Disney Channel. Now the big finale can really begin!!! Kieren kicked me, scratched my face, screamed bloody murder (I'm waiting for Children's Services to show up), and totally melted. She was NOT going to take a nap! That's what she thought! I am stronger, meaner, and more desperate than she is. So I let her flip out until she fell asleep in my aching arms 30 minutes later.

Now I am going to take a very fast shower so I can wake up the banshee to get Cullen from school. Poor Cullen. He is also a victim of today. I got a call from the school nurse that Cull's gag-reflex was acting up today at lunch. He wanted to talk to me (Nurse-speak for "he wants to come home, but this is totally up to you"). The poor baby called during one of Kieren's naughty moments (and there were many!). I wasn't very sympathetic. I told him he was not sick. He could have some Tums and sip some water and go back to class. He was not coming home until I picked him up at 3pm! I know, not nice. Now I feel guilty because it's not his fault that Kieren was being awful at the same time he didn't feel good. He didn't ask to be born with his gag-reflex problems. But instead I just upset him and sent him on his way. Now I have to figure out how to fix it. It's got to be hard to have been an only child for over 9 years and then suddenly have to share Mom all the time. Good thing I'm broke this week or Cullen would have whatever he wanted!!

Okay, I'm done complaining and whining! I know Kieren is just testing me, same as Cullen does. I know this too will pass. I just needed to vent. Now I am running late for picking up Cull! Great! More Mommy guilt!!!!

Kieren's Birthday Party

Yesterday was Kieren's 1st birthday party!!! We had a big party at my parents' house. We had such a great time! Our friend Laurie Wells drove almost two hours (one way) with her three daughters (Hannah, Jordan, and Jenna) just to come to the party. I was so touched. Laurie was in my DTC group. She traveled about a month before we did.

Jan, Mark and Helen Tracy (also with our DTC group) were also at the party. Helen is Kieren's best friend and Jan is such a good friend! Carol, Marty, and Maddie Justice joined us for a fun time! They are waiting for the referral of their second daughter from China sometime this summer. It was so nice getting our girls together! This was the first time some of us have seen each other's daughters. The girls ranged from 12 months to 3 1/2 years in age. They had so much fun playing!!!

Heather and Mark were such a big help! Heather and I are attached at the hip. We made lots of yummy stuff and got in all the usual trouble!!! Our friend DeAnne French came with her son Ben (Cullen's best friend). We were so happy they could make it! My brother, Sean, and my sister-in-law Nikki made it at the end of the party. Poor Nikki had to work, but didn't want to miss the party! My brother was so funny! He loved all the little girls!!!! He kept picking Kieren up and wouldn't let his wife hold her!!

Thanks Nanny and Pops for letting us trash your house!!!!! Party's at my house next year!!!!

HAPPY 1st BIRTHDAY, KIEREN!!!!

WoooHooo!

We got up this morning to find the "old" Doodlebops were on!!! Kieren was a very happy little girl! Hopefully they keep playing these!!! Kieren was so thrilled that I was able to use the potty alone!! WOO HOO!!!! (I know, too much information!) I have got to order the old series from Amazon Canada!!!!

If It Ain't Broke...

Soap Box Time...

I want to start by saying that I love Disney. I love the kids shows (well, most of them) on the Disney Channel. Kieren loves then too. Or at least she did until recently.

One of Kieren's favorite shows is the Doodlebops! They are three sibling non-threatening, clown-like, singing, dancing, silly characters out of Canada. Their music is actually pretty good. The show is one I don't mind watching with Kieren. Until... Disney bought the Doodlebops.

Disney has decided to give the Doodlebops a make-over. If the show is so popular the way it is now, lets make it better!! They changed the format, the costumes, the make-up, the music style, the sets, and even some of the additional characters. Now it sucks (sorry to be blunt)! Kieren hears the Doodlebop theme music playing and comes running!!! Then the show starts and Kieren gets this look on her face like "what's this?". About a minute later, Kieren has turned her nose up at the "Disney-fied" Doodlebops, gives me a look like "where's my show" and walks off. That's a lot of attitude from a one-year-old!!

Why do people have to "fix" what's not broken?!?!

A major pet peeve for me is the fact that Deedee's dress is now tight and short. What are we teaching our girls? That you can't get anywhere in life if your dress is too long and doesn't show every curve you own? I'm not a prude, but this show is for our children. Children like to copy what they see. Okay, fine. Make Deedee's dress tighter, but then I want the male characters to wear tighter costumes too. Come on Disney, let's see Rooney's butt!! Let's see Moe's chest!! Doesn't fly, does it? By the way, I'm kidding about Rooney's butt and Moe's chest. I was just making a point.

By the way, I'm not the only one who feels this way about the Disney-fied Doodlebops. Just go to http://dontpulltherope.com . It is the non-Disney Doodlebop site. The comments on this new season are pretty interesting!

Okay, I've gotten that off my chest! I can go back to reality now! Now, wear did I put my skin-tight mini-dress???

Thanks!

I just want to say thanks to everyone who sent me a supportive note or left me a comment. Night terrors are just no fun. Kieren had two more last night. The second one seemed to go on forever!

I finally was able to get the little sweetie to bed for the night around 2am. By the time I got the dishes and bottles done it was 2:45am. Then Kieren decided she wanted a bottle at 3:30am.

sigh... I guess I can sleep when I'm dead!

Thanks again! It's nice knowing I'm not alone.

How Much Longer?

It is almost 1am. I'm sitting in my office, at my desk. The house is finally quiet. I can hear the "clack-clack-clack" of the metal snaps of Kieren's clothing as it tumbles in the dryer. I can hear Andy snoring like a freight train at the other end of the house. I can hear Cullen talking in his sleep. Kieren's screams of terror have finally tapered off as I slowly move my office chair from side-to-side.

Kieren is still strapped to my body in her Kelty Kangaroo (Hell of an investment! Hell of an invention!). It has been a rough night so far. The night terrors won't let up. She has endured two in a row tonight. They strike almost every night. I finally resorted to the carrier tonight. My wrist was not holding out and Kieren just couldn't calm down so we are giving the Kelty and the office chair a go. It's "interesting" trying to type with one hand while pivoting in my chair. I keep missing the keys I'm after!

The night terrors started about a week after we got home from China. We've been home almost three months. I know they will eventually end and Kieren will never remember them. I just wish she didn't have to go through them at all. I know night terrors are common, and not just in adopted children. What does God have in mind with making a sweet baby scream in terror? Was it something I did or said? Those are retorical questions. I know these could go on for years. I just want to ask God to tell me how much longer my baby will have to suffer.

It's 1:25am now. I have lost all feeling in my left arm. My back is throbbing. My feet are numb from cold. BUT Kieren just sighed peacefully and settled into a deeper sleep.

~DAMN!~ Night terror number three is starting! How much longer????

Kieren's Laugh

Kieren has this amazing laugh!! It starts as a giggle, then goes to a snicker. Next it becomes a shriek and finally a giant belly laugh! The photos above show how Kieren can light a room with her laugh. I wish you could hear it yourself!!!!

IS SHE STILL BREATHING??????

I finally got Kieren to go to sleep at 11pm last night. She was so tired, but she just refused to settle down. For once, there were no night terrors (Thank you, God!!!). So after I did the dishes and watched the news, I headed off to bed at 1:30am. (Yes, it was an early night for me!)

Well, at 3am I got up to use the bathroom (gotta stop drinking so much before bed!). It was strange that Kieren hadn't woken yet for her bottle, but sometimes she wakes at 4am. So I checked on her (made sure she was still breathing and warm enough) and went back to bed.

At 4:30am, my bladder reminded me how stupid it is to drink so much water before bed and off to the potty I went again!!! Hmmm... Kieren was still sleeping. This was getting strange. Oh well! Never look a gift horse... So I shoved Andy off my pillow (AGAIN!!!) and went back to sleep.

I woke up again at 6:45am when Andy kissed me as he and Cullen headed out. What the heck?!?! I rushed into Kieren's room and checked on her. Still breathing. Still warm. Still asleep!!! HOLY COW!!! I let the dog out, used the bathroom (Yeah, yeah, I know! Too much water!!!), checked Kieren again, tossed the dog back in bed (He's too short to jump up!) and went back to sleep!!!

At 8:10am Miss Kieren Olivia ChengLi Campbell finally woke up!!!! The child who never sleeps actually slept for 9 hours without waking!!!!!! OH MY GOD!!!! But wait! It gets weirder! At 10:15am, she climbed into my lap to watch the Wiggles and fell asleep. She's been in her crib asleep for an hour and a half so far! I've had my shower, got dressed, dried my hair, and had lunch!!! Either God has decided I can't take it anymore and is giving me a break or Kieren is sick. I wonder which it is?

Stinkerbell!!!

Kieren is having a Tinkerbell birthday party this year! Aunt Heather bought this adorable fairy costume at The Disney Store on Friday night. Kieren loves it!!!! The wings are a bit big, but I can fix that. It was so cute watching Kieren run through the house dressed as Tink!!! By the way, Kieren's nickname is STINKERBELL because she's always into something!

Buddies!

Harry and Kieren are finally becoming friends.
Kieren has learned that Harry likes
to be worshipped as a God!

Kieren trying to give her big brother

Cullen a kiss. You can tell he's not too

thrilled with the wet and drooly kiss!!!

Beware of Spitting Camel - I Mean Baby!

My sweet little angel has developed a new trick. While being so adorable and eating her sweet potato mushy-food the other day, Kieren looked me in the eye, smiled so sweetly, and SPIT her food all over me! Not just once, but every chance she got!! She was not blowing raspberries! It was truly a spit!

Yesterday at church, Kieren was being such a good girl. She was reclined in my arms, drinking her bottle while Pastor Tom was giving prayer requests, when she leaned back and smiled at my mom (who was seated next to her) and then proceeded to spit it at her! I can't decide which was funnier, my mom's face or Kieren actually spitting at her!!! I had warned my mom about this new behavior, but she didn't want to believe her little angel would do such a thing. I think she believes me now!

I guess I need to have a warning sign printed that reads "Beware of Spitting Baby. Approach at Own Risk!". What do you think?

It's The Amazing Velcro Baby!!!!

God knew what He was doing when He made Kieren so cute!

Why? Because somedays the amazing velcro baby takes over this beautiful, sweet child. The "amazing velcro baby" is the term I use for the clingy, whiny, unhappy little girl who wants to be carried constantly, but only on her terms. What terms? WHO KNOWS!!!! They change constantly! It's kind of like "Carry me, but don't touch me or try to make me happy. Hey! Why are you ignoring me?". Today was one of those days.

Kieren ended up being in the Kelty (baby carrier) for over an hour this evening. She was happy at first, but then it occurred to her that she was happy. Can't have that, now can we?! That's when she started throwing a whining fit. So I made her stay in it while I prepared dinner. I just couldn't lift her and put her down one more time. I reinjured my bad wrist after one of her "why are you holding me" moments today. It was hurt the wrist or let the baby free-fall!

Like I said, God made her cute for a reason!!!
